A few weeks ago I was invited to the studio of the Hub Network in Hollywood for a sneak preview of their game show, Family Game Night. My youngest joined me on this day and we were given a tour of the set just before watching a taping of one their shows. As we walked on the set we were amused with all of the life sized family board game pieces that they use. If you haven’t watched this game show, families compete against each other for cash and prizes through a series of games based on Hasbro board games such as Connect Four, Bop It, and Yahtzee. The families that were competing on this day looked like they were having so much fun, that we wanted to go up and try it out for ourselves.
Just before we went on the set to watch the taping, we had an opportunity to listen to Todd Newton, Host and Burton Richardson, Voice Announcer speak about their personal experience working with the Family Game Night game show. Burton voice swept us moms away! Someone asked if he gets request for recording people’s personal voice mail message for their cell phones. 😀 Can you imagine? LOL! It wasn’t the first time he’s been asked that, so he cleverly left the room before anyone had a chance to give him extra work.
Todd charmed us with his stories about the families that come to compete on the show, the joy of having a family win big, his favorite game- Bop It, and working on the wonder like set that is the Family Game Night. Since I have older kids I had to ask if they would ever produce shows with tweens and teens. They do have games that any aged person can enjoy, such as Boggle.
The producers told us about the families, games on the show, and the type of prizes that families win. I was surprised to learn that so many families travel many miles to audition and compete on their own dime. I suppose it’s their vacation time- they travel, spend time together, and put their hopes in a fun and entertaining game show. Whether they are chosen to compete and/or go all the way to a big win, these families return home with a unique experience.
Overall, we had a great time at the studio! Todd was generous with us in taking additional time to speak with us when he didn’t have to. Thank You!

LOS ANGELES –The Hub, a television network for kids and their families, will kick off its fall rollout of new and returning original series with the second-season premiere of the network’s popular one hour family game show “Family Game Night” featuring two new back-to-back, one hour episodes Friday, September 2 (7 p.m. & 8 p.m. ET). The returning, top-rated, family-favorite series will be supported by marketing initiatives that include a sweepstakes during which viewers watching live can win prizes including the same Grand Prizes as the families competing on the series.
Hosted by Daytime Emmy® nominee Todd Newton, the Hasbro Studios-produced series returns with all new challenges based on classic games such as “Simon” and “Trouble” added to gameplay, as well as brand new original challenges, in a larger-than-life environment that is bigger, better, and more exciting than ever. Within each episode, two families compete head-to-head playing outrageous versions of the most beloved and iconic board games, challenging both contestants and viewers with strategy, creativity and pure luck for the chance to win cash, prizes and awesome family vacations.
Just three days after the premiere, The Hub will celebrate Labor Day and the second season launch with a special marathon of nine back-to-back, favorite episodes of “Family Game Night,” Monday, September 5 (10 a.m. -7 p.m. ET).
To usher in the new season of “Family Game Night,” on September 2, The Hub is hosting a sweepstakes during that day’s episodes (7 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET) and during the September 9 episode (7 p.m. ET.) During the sweepstakes, viewers will have an opportunity to call in to win the same Grand Prize as the TV contestants on those episodes. Supplemental prizes include five $1,000 awards.
